There is too much hypocrisy in the NDC and the more we Ghanaians, no matter which party you belong to, sit on the fence, eat and drink and do our usual concert, the more the NDC believe that they are untouchable and would continue the abuse of power that has mushroomed all over the country. We had our uneducated forefathers with the barrel of guns pointed at them who stood firm and steadfastly refused to hand over land to our slave masters, who would later become our colonial masters. Even as defenceless as our forebears were, they were bold to tell these foreigners, “kill us, for we can never be silenced as long as you mistreat us and try to stop us from expressing ourselves” When Rawlings promulgated the 1992 Constitution, he was telling Ghanaians that never again can the nation sit down and allow any power drunk politician to assume that they are powerful than those who elected them. It is only in Ghana that the king makers are made to suffer for their singular duty of queuing well over 8hours to go through the ballot process to elect our Presidents and parliamentarians.

President Mahama, when you wanted power you followed all the requirements of Ghana’s 1992 constitution, you subjected yourself to it, you abided by all its texts and prescription. You became the loyal dedicated democrat looking for power and thus use that power to rule and better the lives of all Ghanaians. I followed your campaign keenly and never did I pick that we were dealing with a dictator. You used all the good and nice words aligned to democracy, but when these people you think do not have the minds and brains of their own voted and made you president, you have jumped on their necks and trying your best to break them.

On the day of the elections it was not only your NDC supporters that voted for you. Well meaning Ghanaians who bought into your propaganda, lies and the character assassinations of those of your opponents voted to elect you. All these people voted to make you become President not of the NDC but Ghana. I never heard you say there would be pay back time when you would run after any Ghanaian who held dissenting views to yours.

Those who have refused to know you would say all the nice things about you and that is the Ghanaian for you. “As for President Mahama he is a good person. As for President Mahama he is not a wicked person. As for President Mahama, there is no way he would like to see a person suffer. My question is so what happened to that Mahama they are saying all these nice things about? Are they referring to President John Dramani Mahama? What happened? Did you hide your true identity to the overwhelming Ghanaians that all gave good testimony about you? That franchise was based on the tenets of democracy. You did not use arms to subvert the constituted government of Ghana. Why did you do that? If you did not believe in the constitution that appointed you President in 2012 and recently in 2025, why did you subject yourself to the democratic principles?

I want to refresh the memory of you the reader of the events that led to the 1966 Coup in Ghana. It started with the landslide victory at Ghana’s Constitutional Referendum and General Election of 27 April,1960 when Ghanaians voted to decide whether we wanted to continue to remain as constitutional monarchy with allegiance to the British monarchy as Australia and New Zealand had done or we would become a republican state with our own constitution and elected President. The overwhelming majority of the newly independent people of Ghana, voted by 88.7% and Kwame Nkrumah became our first elected President on 1st July 1960. Kwame Nkrumah now had the mandate to rule Ghana without any interference from Great Britain or any other power. He had by 1958 enacted the Preventive Detection Act, that Act allowed the state to put anybody who opposed the government to prison for 5 years without trial. Kwame Nkrumah had embarked on a journey nobody could stop him, as he was arresting anybody who did not belong to the CPP, he had started the indoctrination agenda and by 1963 ,our schools and institutions had become the centre for Nkrumaism. They were the days Primary and Middle schools had to spend well over 30minutes every school day morning glorifying Kwame Nkrumah. We were taught to say every morning at our assemblies, led by the teachers who had been taken to the Kwame Nkrumah Institute of Ideology in Winneba, who would stand in front of the pupils and say as follows:

“Nkrumah does no wrong, and we would respond, Nkrumah is our leader. Nkrumah does no wrong, we would respond he is our father, Nkrumah does no wrong, Nkrumah is our messiah” As the CPP was enjoying the landslide victory and Kwame Nkrumah had become untouchable, millions who did not belong to the CPP and protested were arrested and put into prison and those who could leave the country fled to foreign countries. Mr Mahama, I know you know the story so you do not need any reminders.

I have never held any power before so I do not know how true it is with that assertion that power is sweet. I want you to understand that what you are doing now, has had its history in Ghana. Some of us are aware of the instability that followed the 1966 coup. We are fortunate to have left that behind us so why does it become difficult for you and your NDC to think, because you had that landslide election victory, the only way forward is absolute dictatorship? Ghanamindset would suggest to you that we have one Ghana. In the developed advanced countries, political parties are just vehicles used only to win elections, After elections, that vehicle is parked and the hard work of applying the talents and resources of the country to improve the lives of its citizens. In this day and age where nations are moving to live in space and all that we in Ghana are grappling for is to turn the Citizens to zombies where the only wise person is the President, then our 69 years as citizens of Ghana has been meaningless. The age we are supposed to buy from Corner ships, supermarkets, hypermarkets but we are saddled with the 17th century markets, then there is something wrong. Ghana?
