Ghanamindset Is Officially Born.

In the corner of my house at Leixlip,County Kildare in the Republic of Ireland sometime in 2011, I drummed the idea of fronting a website that to me then, would play a part in reorientating the mindset of Ghanaians from the one bequeathed to us by imperialist, Colonial British masters. They occupied our land for well over 300 years and made sure that by the time we gained independence in 1957, our way of life would be ” How they programmed us” To understand what we went through all those years, let us take a computer, on it’s own, it is of no use but if it has operating system and software, the programs, they become useful.

Our association with the colonial masters was not planned, our forefathers in the Coast woke up one morning, some of them busily fishing, then, they saw ships arriving on our shores and their curiosity and hospitality is what is going to lead to the occupation of our lands and country for over 300 years. Within this period, they traded us in as cargoes,Slaves, to be taken to the Caribbean and the Americas. We were nothing to them and if they laughed with us, it was the psychological way of getting information about our strongholds and our resources. They never liked us but did we have the choice?

To occupy someone you hate’s land for over 300 years, what legacy do you leave for them when you are forced to leave? Create hatred amongst “themselves” because their unity would be inimical to your safety and peaceful occupation. We are what we are today because of the Europeans forcible occupation of our lands. We are what we are today because they forced us to think and behave the way they -Programmed us to. We are what we are today because we did not have rights as people with common destiny, to protect and defend our heritage. We are what we are today because it suited our colonial masters for us to behave that way and they made sure even our future generations would behave as they had programmed us as we assist them to plunder our resources for their own sovereign development.

The short sighted amongst us say but you have your independence now for over 60 years, so why can’t you divorce your mind of the past, it has not been easy because, though politically free,we still live in a global world where these same nations have taken hold of the economies. Without Economic control, political independence becomes difficult. Catch 22 situation.

Why Ghanamindset then? There must be a deliberate effort on our side to gradually get us out of 300 years mindset they set for us. We need to be proactive in our approach in the 21st century, to let our children and their children think differently. Ghana has not done well at all in demystifying our society of the ills of colonial mindset and mentality. Nations in Asia, which went through what Africa went through as a result of colonisation used education,to some extent wipe out the colonial mindset but in Ghana, apart from what Dr Kwame Nkrumah did from 1957 to 1966, later political leaders, rather used education to make us more ignorant, thus worsening our already fragile colonial mindset.

Whilst, Nigeria embraced Education in all fronts in 1970s to the extent of luring the best graduates from Ghana to teach in their schools, colleges and universities, we in Ghana played lip service, turned our schools into propaganda arenas,at times our schools were shut down because these “neo colonialists” who thrived on backward and ignorant society, used us as their pawns for long term political power. Education, which could have played a significant part and role in removing our colonial retrogressive mindset, became the weapon to worsen it. From 1966,that Dr Nkrumah was deposed, we never had a government that did anything in terms of expansion and infrastructure building in education in Ghana. What these politicians did,as they have always done to the detriment of the rural folks, was to encourage more private and expensive schools to be built in the Cities, so as they destroyed the State and Public Schools, they enrolled their children in the good and affluent private schools they had helped to build. Our public schools were devoid of any learning, because they never provided the necessary tools, materials and required manpower for any effective teaching and learning to take place and the rural folks children went there to play and come home empty headed. As late as 2015, teachers could not even have chalks and exercise books for any proper academic activity in our schools. From 1981 until 2017,only God knows what type of education that group of children had.

In Ghana today, at least since 2017,the nation has started Free Senior High School and it is my hope that we would have a curriculum that would be geared towards the practicalities of the 21st century which is pure Science and Technology and with the advent of social media, GHANAMINDSET.COM IS IN THE RIGHT PLACE TO HELP resetting the GHANAIAN mindset from the Colonial, FIXED MINDSET to the mind expansion, innovative, desirous, determined, potential reaching GROWTH MINDSET.

Follow us and let us all play a part in removing our colonial mindset to the technological 21st century mindset.

Started Ghanamindset in 2011 purposely to help our Ghanaian society have a better view of appreciating that mediocrity has never built and develop any nation. We have this layback attitude that we always think, when something is going wrong, " I am not responsible to fix it". There are many instances that we could have applied common sense to tackle a situation but our laissez-faire attitude would let us walk past unconcerned. Born and educated in Ghana in 1952 and currently living in the UK.
