Ghana has all that it takes, but …

A day in the life of the ordinary Ghanaian. In order for you to understand the logic behind this piece, let me work  with about three to four categories of  the Ghanaian.

Category One: The executive arm of government which represents the President of Ghana, his vice and all those who hold political position just because they belong to the political party of the president of the land. Anyone in this category is classified as Gold because they control and dominate the resources of the land called Ghana. In this category, you are free to do whatever you like and you are answerable  only to the president through whose benevolence you are in that position and you always have to be on his right side because if by mistake you move to the wrong side, you are removed from that category. To maintain your status, you should always be a “Yes Sir Master, I am at your  service always”.In this category, they form just a minute percentage of the population, but the state spends greater part of our resources on them. They all the strings

In the Silver category is the political party through which the president belong. Here the party is supreme and the only interest that matters is the party hierachy, the party apparatus as well as all those who belong to the party through membership or bragging rights just because they are the so called foot soldiers who make things happen.  Most of them are trained purposely to cause mayheim in society to create disaffection among opposing parties. Their reward, they have access to all those in the Gold category and therefore it is eat and lets eat. You feed me, I will remember to do your dirty works during next elections to make sure  you are still in control the gold tranche.

The last category are called the unfortunate Ghanaian whose party never won elections are automatically in opposition by default. In this category, you are not seen as of any importance at all, you do not have any right to partcipate in any activity in the country that resonates in resources. You could be the wealtiest person in the land you need to be careful because the least mistake, those in the Gold category will trump up a charge against you and because there is no law and order in Ghana, that will lead to your downfall.

In this category, you are born right as a Ghanaian, you have all the qualities those in the Gold and Silver category but your party, which is incidentally, though Ghanaian, is treated as if you are from mars, you do not deserve to share in the resources of Ghana. What happens then? As those in the gold and silver catogories are able to have the best of everything Ghana can offer, you need to feed from heaps and the refuse dumps.

Started Ghanamindset in 2011 purposely to help our Ghanaian society have a better view of appreciating that mediocrity has never built and develop any nation. We have this layback attitude that we always think, when something is going wrong, " I am not responsible to fix it". There are many instances that we could have applied common sense to tackle a situation but our laissez-faire attitude would let us walk past unconcerned. Born and educated in Ghana in 1952 and currently living in the UK.
