Ghanamindset.com starting from today 6^th June 2013 is introducing a new forum called: Letter from Europe in which we will try to advance strong points as they apply in the rest of the world in comparison with Ghana. Our beloved Ghana is a sleeping giant capable of rousing itself from the long slumber and take on the rest of the world in terms of Infrastructural, Social, Economic and Human development. It will be published every Thursday.

Today’s Letter:

The British Prime Minister today announced measures that would assist those who are unemployed and are struggling to make a living that his government would make sure they a have access to housing, welfare supplement increases and that local councils have been instructed to speed up the processing of unemployment claims to alleviate the suffering of the unemployed. The Department of Transport (Ministry as called in Ghana) has requested all the Transport and Traffic agencies to compile reports on the recent spate of road accidents occurring on the British Roads so that government can take measures to stop the carnage on the British Roads.Meanwhile all the Political Parties have supported the British government on the measures adopted in the Queen’s Speech in her address to Parliament recently. They all agree that in all matters, national interest should come first so they would work together to foster good governance for the benefit of the British people.

President Barack Obama of the United States has visited the victims of the Oklahoma disaster. He pledged his support for the people of Oklahoma that Congress (US Parliament) has agreed to work with him so that the federal government would help them rebuild their homes. He said it is a national disaster that all the people of America should work together on this.

There has been fire outbreak at Kantamanto market in Accra, Ghana and the market women have lost almost all their wares and investments. The house of the former President, JJ Rawlings has been grazed to the ground by fire. He has lost everything in the house. There has been a missive roads accidents as follows: The newly opened N1 Road and about twenty six people are feared dead; The Accra-Kumasi highway has witnessed massive lost of lives as an articulated truck plunged into a 33 seater bus, all the passengers are dead. The Tamale-Kumasi road has seen a pile up as a result of a road accident where 50 people are feared dead.

Armed robbers have taken hostage a house in Mampong in the Ashanti Region killing as many as 10 occupants of the house. They demanded that they handed over all their personal belongings and those who resisted were killed. Police arrived at the scene after they had left. Thousands of patients have been turned away from various hospitals in the country because they could not afford the higher medical fees being charged.

In the developed world, like Europe and the US, the life of even the unborn child is protected by law. In those places they hold people accountable for their actions. In those countries the Citizens are supreme so their rights and interests are protected by the laws of the land. They believe in the Bill of Rights as enshrined in the United Nations declarations on fundamental rights and have brought those declarations into their national laws.

In your Ghana, the Political Party in power is supreme. All decisions of national interests are skewed to suit the party in power and the party faithful. There is nothing called national interest but rather party interest and once your party is not in power, you and all those who support your party in opposition should not:

1. Work
2. Eat
3. Sleep
4. Go to school
5. Travel because where do you get the money?
6. Go to hospital because you have no money to do that.

As the British Prime Minister is concerned about the welfare and well being of the British citizens, his counterpart in Ghana works for the interests of the 50% plus one who voted for them to win power. As for disasters like those dying on our roads,hospital,fire and others, it is your own fault that the calamity has come upon you so sort it out yourself.

When JJ Rawlings lost his house through fire, the then President visited the site and immediately took measures to build him a new house. Can the same be said of the thousands of hardworking market women at: Kantamanto who have lost their entire livelihood? Whilst the Federal Government of the US is devoting billions of Dollars to rebuild Oklahoma … what are they doing in Ghana?

In Ghana, the lives of the people depend on PROPAGANDA instead of the Resources of the land.
