The Supreme Court Petition Judgement

I say a little prayer for our Eminent Nine Judges. God had told the Israelites that when you enter the land I am about to give to you as your inheritance, you must not do as those of the land but obey all the laws I have  given through my servant Moses to you. When you have settled on the land, never ask for a King because I am your King. However, after a few moments that they had settled in the land, they attacked Prophet Samuel to give them a King. It bothered Samuel for a long time and never understood why within a short space of time, he had been confronted with a difficult task of having to choose a King for the Israelites. He saw the disobedience of the Israelites to demand for something God had warned them not to do.

My dear Justices of the Supreme Court, you are in the same situation Samuel found himself. You have to take a decision that will have profound  and lasting effect upon the over 25 million people of Ghana. As Samuel continued to think about how to handle that difficult situation, God himself spoke to him by saying, “it is not you they have refused to obey but it is me they have rejected and he commanded him to do what the people have asked”

In that situation, it was not all the Israelites who wanted a King but the influential leaders amongst them which means in whatever way, there were those who were happy to have Saul as their King and those who still regarded God as their King.

You have not sworn your oath of office to be men pleasers but Justice pleasers. You need not worry about what society will say after you have made the decision you think in terms of law is the right thing to do. Samuel  had God to guide him to do the right thing so I know, he will be with you all as you sit down on Thursday 29th August to decide the Election Petition. One thing my short life on planet earth has taught me is the fact that whenever you are doing the right thing, you see some spring in your heels to give  you the stregnth and wisdom so I wish for each one of you.

What makes your decision even sweeter is the fact that you are Ghanaians and you are making a decision that to the best of your judgement will be fair to everybody. I pray that God who guided Samuel through his difficult situation grant you the same: Boldness, Strength and Wisdom so that 29th August will come and pass off peacefully. Amen.

Started Ghanamindset in 2011 purposely to help our Ghanaian society have a better view of appreciating that mediocrity has never built and develop any nation. We have this layback attitude that we always think, when something is going wrong, " I am not responsible to fix it". There are many instances that we could have applied common sense to tackle a situation but our laissez-faire attitude would let us walk past unconcerned.
