Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, I salute You
I have never liked Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings in the past for the way she conducted herself as part of the PNDC/NDC ruling elite, most notably her determination to dominate and control almost everything in Ghana. She had this abrasive attitude towards those who never shared her views and opinions and to her they were the enemies of the state apparatus she and her husband controlled in Ghana. This was a woman nodody dared to cross her path and to be sincere, I never for anything appreciated any of those attributes of hers. Then, one may ask but why salute her now?
For the first time in our national history, she has been bold to stand up to the powers that be in Ghana daring them to tackle the bread and butter issues confronting the Ghanaian population. It is the first time that a lady has been bold to tackle a monster of a government that feeds on propaganda and would not blink an eye lid if all Ghanaians would perish for them to perpetuate their personal selfish get rich at all cost agenda. I notice in our national history that since the advent of the so called AFRC revolution and their big brother, the PNDC/NDC regimes in Ghana, you dare not speak the truth on any national issue because if you did, you would be smeared with viled lies as if you were not given birth to by a woman. When you see white you have to let the ruling class in Ghana, the NDC believe you did not see white but you saw black instead and almost everybody in Ghana has fallen for it. Gone are the days that we had men and women in power for the good of the Ghanaian society, this time we have politicians who are in power to amass wealth and there is no fear or remorse of any kind in them. It is in this background that one Yaa Asantewaa has emerged to stand up to the hypocrisy of her own husband and the ruling NDC.
Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings told the NDC government in power that people are suffering and corruption was eroding all the gains Ghana had made before they came to power. Whereas everybody is crying “Wolf” and running for shelter, those in government and the multitudes of the NDC communication hangers-on are telling us that it is no-wolf but a lamb so there is no need to run for cover. Whereas many graduates, churned out of our universities, the polytechnics and almost all the professional institutions in Ghana and abroad cannot get any job to do, Omane Boamah,Doste,Muntara,Kwakye Ofusu…. and the list is endless because there is a communication person for each of the seven days, and as usual they tell us on each day that “His Excellency the president says, tomorrow, “manna” will fall from heaven for all to enjoy and all Ghanaians will say :Alleluyah, well done Mr President.
She has broken ranks with the status quo and it is like when Saul saw the light and changed to become Paul the fisher of men. Nana, Ghanaians have become like children, everybody is afraid of the propaganda machinery of the NDC, even your own husband, the instigator and architect of the mammoth propaganda machinery you know very well is afraid to tackle the NDC. Anytime the NDC had indulged in any corrupt practices, you hear your husband, Mr Rawlings bringing President Kufuor’s name into it as if he is still the President of Ghana. You are demonstrating to me that there comes a time that educated people stand up to defend the quality and the value of their education. For a very long time we have allowed our emotions to decide our take on national issues. Ghanaians following and support for any cause is not borne out of logic but rather on emotions. I have seen people who are highly educated that you expect them to be able to read between lies and truth but they all fail the emotional test .Our emotions cloud our judgement on most things in Ghana which suits the politicians a lot, because it tells them that, the more people you get on your side and feeding them on daily doses of poisionous lies, the more likely you are to stay in power. We have chosen as a nation not to be discerning but follow whatever we chose to support with emotions and passion.
I salute you because when the Asante men could not stand up to the might of the British Imperialist rule and domination, when they demanded the surrender of the Golden Stool to them, Edweso produced one woman of your kind and she stood up to the extent of waging a war against that mighty and powerful ruthless empire. You are an insider so whatever you say about the NDC should be seized upon as the truth and all those who love Ghana not for the sake of this GOLD COAST mindset – Ghanaian but the 21st century technology oriented mindset- Ghanaian should embrace your just discovered eye opening determination to take a stand against the LIES under-pinning the NDC government. Ghana need more articulate and forthright people like you and as long as you are spearheading that agenda which will help in the equal distribution of our national cake, I will always support you.
The time has come for the women of Ghana to wrestle political power from the menfolk of our society. You the women are close to the people in the grassroots and you have first hand knowledge of what goes on in the homes as almost everybody in Ghana retire to their homes everyday. You know more about suffering than the men, some of them were brought up in affluence so they have no first hand experience in what goes on the kitchens. You know how best to feed the children on meagre incomes in the homes where in most cases the men have abdicated their “husbandry” responsibilities. I marvel at how you women are able to share one piece of “amane” in the soup for five to seven children in a family.
Nana, keep the fight on,you should not fear the monsters at all, though attack they will, but just like Nana Yaa Asantewaa of Edweso, take the weapons and let the masses follow. I salute you for your boldness.
