New Dawn In Ghana, As Opposition Wins Elections,”The Saviour Is Back”
Ghanaians went to the polls on 7th December,2024 and elected former President,John Dramani Mahama, leader of the opposition NDC as the nations President. We at Ghanamindset congratulate the new President elect and it is delightful news for the whole nation as we wait in anticipation for him to be sworn in on 7th January,2025. The President Elect campaigned vigorously on the current state of the Ghanaian Economy which faced the turbulence and shock of the Covid-19 Pandemic and the attendant Russia-Ukranian war which the Ghanaian elite working class population and the opposition have stated categorically and emphatically that though those shocks affected the rest of the world economy, It did not affect Ghana beacuse we are a different stand alone nation in the world not subject to the events of the rest of the world.
Any foreigner reading this, who is not a Ghanaian would agree with the assertion of the elites and the current opposition that, though COVID -19 Pandemic affected the over 207 nations of the world and therefore it is possible to have had negative detrimental effect on the Ghanaian economy, the latter, the Russian-Ukranian war should never have negative effect on the Ghanaian Economy. The fact of the matter is that since our independence in 1957, no government in Ghana has been able to introduce measures to STOP the excessive consumption of Imported goods and services from the EU. There is nothing in Ghana apart from our staple food of: plantain, yam, cassava and cocoyam, about 99% of our basic needs are imported and EU carries over 75% of all our import needs. That being the case, any economic shock in the EU equally affects Ghana. It is therefore disingenious for anybody to accuse the government for the economic hardships facing Ghana by refusing to accept that the two events I have mentioned above.
The Number two accusation of the elite working class and the opposition stress that the government had not tackled the exchange rate. The opposition NDC claims that when they exited power in 2016, the Ghanaian Cedi exchanged against the US Dollar at GHS4:$1 but it is GHS18:$1 now. This is heart warming and I have decided for thrill of it and the joy that, Ghanaians have done the responsible thing by voting to bring back the NDC to come and use their magic wand to bring down the exchange rate drastically because to them, it is the surest way to solve all our problems. They say talk is cheap because when this exchange rate was low and our GDP which had been 10% as at the time Ghana lost President Atta Mills through death in 2012, by the time our in coming saviour left office, he had brought the GDP to 3% and taken Ghana to the IMF in 2015 and this was a President that was so lucky to inherit a stable crude oil prices in the world market ( the reader must understand we import all our crude oil needs from the international oil market) He was lucky again in the fact that throughout the 8 years his Party, the NDC was in power, no Pandemic affected the world and no epidemic confronted Ghana either.
I will hold my peace for now as the economic saviour assumes power on the 7th of January,2025 to restore Ghana back to great heights. Mr President elect congratulations.
